Defeating Eidolons

To win and eidolon battle, you must press the SQUARE (PS3) or X (XBOX) button when the eidolon's Gestalt Gauge is full.

There are various tricks for raising the Gestault Gauge for each eidolon, and in each battle your leader starts off "doomed." You need to fill that bar quick, or die trying. It usually comes pretty close.

Defeating Shiva Sisters

As found in our Chapter 3 Walkthrough.

Paradigm Setup

Snow - Sentinel

Snow - Commando

Strategy

First off, defeat the foot soldiers with Snow as Commando, using potions heal yourself.

After the cool cutscene, you begin to fight the Shiva Sisters. This eidolon battle is won by using the Sentinel Paradigm, more specificaly, the Steelguard ability. Keep Steelguard activated, because the Gestalt Gauge will only fill up when you are hit while the ability is active. Doing damage will also charge the gauge, but not enough for you to win the battle, so stick with the Sentinel.

Defeating Odin

As found in our Chapter 4 Walkthrough.

Use Fortisol

Paradigm Setup

Double Dose (2)

Lightning - Medic
Hope - Medic

Slash and Burn

Lightning - Commando
Hope - Ravager

Dualcasting (2)

Lightning - Ravager
Hope - Ravager

Strategy

There are two tricks to killing Odin – doing damage while there’s a Chain Bonus, and Healing. When Odin activates Ullr’s Shield, switch to Slash and Burn to start a chain (starting a chain with a Commando keeps the Chain bonus from falling so quickly). After that, use Dualcasting to raise your Chain Bonus. Once he starts attacking you’ll need to switch back to Double Dose, but that’s ok, because healing will also help raise the Gestalt Gauge. Keep repeating this, and Odin should fall with time on the clock.

Defeating Brynhildr

As found in our Chapter 8 Walkthrough.

Use Fortisol and Aegisol

Paradigm Setup

Dual Cast (2)

Sazh - Ravager
Vanille - Ravager

War and Peace (2)

Sazh - Commando
Vanille - Medic

Strategy

Stay on Dual Cast, only alternating to War and Peace when you need to heal. With this simple strategy you should defeat Brynhildr in no time. Well, technically about 800 of those time units, but who’s counting?

Defeating Bahamut

As found in our Chapter 10 Walkthrough.

Use Fortisol and Aegisol

Paradigm Setup

Relentless Assault (2)

Lightning - Ravager
Fang - Commando
Hope - Ravager

Diversity (2)

Lightning - Ravager
Fang - Commando
Hope - Medic

Discretion

Lightning - Medic
Fang - Commando
Hope - Medic

Strategy

Beat it to the ground. There are no special tricks, have Vanille heal appropriately and switch over to Relentless Assault whenever you can spare the health. This is an extremely difficult battle, but for it there is no better strategy than just crushing him to dust. In the end, you may find that it is better to let Vanille and Lightening die to get the last bit of damage in before time runs out.

Defeating Alexander

As found in our Chapter 11 Walkthrough.

Paradigm Setup

Relentless Assault (2)

Lightning - Ravager
Fang - Commando
Hope - Ravager

Diversity (2)

Lightning - Ravager
Fang - Commando
Hope - Medic

Discretion

Lightning - Medic
Fang - Commando
Hope - Medic

Strategy

Stay on Diversity. As long as you continue to heal your allies they will quickly incapacitate Alexander. Alexander can pull some punches, so be ready to revive your allies, as well as heal them.

Defeating Hecatoncheir

As found in our Chapter 11 Walkthrough.

Paradigm Setup:

Lifeguard (2)

Vanille - Medic
Fang - Sentinel

Divide and Conquer (2) – Vanille as Saboteur

Vanille - Saboteur
Fang - Commando

Stumbling Block (2) – Vanille as Saboteur

Vanille - Saboteur
Fang - Sentinel

Strategy

Hecatoncheir charges a massive combo attack then unleashes it all at once. You don’t stand much of a chance of overpowering him, so, once the battle begins, do a Start + Select to retry the fight and set the correct Paradigms. Have them start on Divide and Conquer so Fang will run up and away from Vanille. Once she has, shift to Stumbling Block and have Vanille keep casting status ailments on Hecatoncheir.

After he does his big combo, Fang will either be dead or close to it. If she’s dead, throw a Phoenix Down (not a heal, as that is too time consuming); if she’s nearly dead, stay on Stumbling Block until Hecatoncheir starts attacking again, then change to lifesaver so Vanille will cure herself. Then throw a Phoenix Down on Fang and start over. You should have about 200 left on your counter if you do this properly.
